Former Jersey Shore star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino is facing a maximum of three years in prison after being charged on several federal tax counts.
Sorrentino and his brother, Marc, are named in a seven-count indictment released Wednesday by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
They both attended court on Wednesday afternoon, with the former reality star smiling and looking relaxed in a smart dark blue suit and white shirt.
Prosecutors allege the brothers failed to pay all taxes owed on nearly $9 million earned from various business ventures over the last four years.
They're charged with conspiracy to defraud, several counts of filing false tax returns and one count of failing to file taxes.The cast of the MTV reality show were known for their rowdy, partying lifestyle that sometimes led to legal troubles.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mike posted on his Instagram in a social media account which appears to be full of motivational messages: 'To be old and wise you must first be young and dumb.'
Mike, 32, was also charged with failing to file a tax return for 2011, when he allegedly earned $1,955,757.
'Michael and Marc Sorrentino filed false tax returns that incorrectly reported millions made from promotions and appearances,' U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman told The Star-Ledger.
'The brothers allegedly also claimed costly clothes and cars as business expenses and funneled company money into personal accounts. The law is absolutely clear: telling the truth to the IRS is not optional.'

Fishman told the newspaper that the pair allegedly conspired to fail to pay federal taxes on income generated by two companies controlled by the brothers: MPS Entertainment, LLC and Situation Nation, Inc.'
Christopher Adams, the lawyer for Marc Sorrentino blamed an unnamed accountant for the charges telling ABC News: 'The charges are fiction.
'We have been showing the government for the better part of a year now the flaws in their theory and now we'll have to show the same to court.'
In July, Mike agreed to take anger management classes to resolve assault charges he faced following a July 15 fight with his brother at their family's tanning salon.

The cast members of the MTV reality show Jersey Shore, filmed in Seaside Heights, were known for their love of tanning and the motto GTL, or gym, tan, laundry.
They also were known for a rowdy, partying lifestyle that resulted in some cast members getting in fights and others facing legal troubles for alcohol-related incidents.
The Situation, famous for his six pack, recently posted a throwback snapshot of the cast, alongside the caption: 'Throwback ; classic Jersey @jennijwowwmtv @realronniemagro @djpaulyd @sammisweetheart @vinnyguadagnino @snookinic miss these guys.'
Jersey Shore ran for six seasons from December 2009 to 2012.
